Mornin Mate! I looked up the fruit Irvingia Gabonensisg (african mango tree) Its been used by africans for eons of generations past. Aparently it was used as an appitite suppressent on long journeys by which they ground up the kernal inside and ate that. Scientifically it seems to have an effect on Cholesterol. My personal feeling is that they should leave the darn fruit alone as it will no doubt become extinct with all the hyped up attention its getting. I reakon we rely too much on pills and potions to give us a quick fix to loose weight.....im just gonna stick to simple health and nutrition this time round. I guess the claims are a bit accurate but....big companies raking in the dosh as usual from all the hype. Your method is working for me :0) x hope your day is a goodin.

i was talking bowt my diet to one of my girlfriends, and she broght up something about the "african mango thingee" she reckons she heard it somewhere, and i was finking she mighta pickd dat random thing up somewhere but i went online and typed in african mango, and it had nothing but good things to say about this, but i still come to speculate can all this be true from a PILL??
i was finking maybe all those pages were paid to endorse it or something, i even found it on some pretty flash looking websites, which raised the issue, what is your thoughts about this, or have you heard whether the claims are at the least a little bit accurate? is the miracle pill worth all its worth as its like a couple of hundred dollars// :-/
thankyou very much

I Robot... No

Actually Liz, Quartz Life is very much alive and achieving some wicked results, and I am just a person who believes in actually contributing to others
I know Quartz Life because I have done the program myself. Im not overly obese, but now in my mid 30s I had always been fit and healthy, surfing, sport , eating shitloads of whatever I want and a metabolism that would burn off most of it, without going to the gym or dieting. In the last few years with a taste for beer, and food, slowing down in my sports life and getting comfortable in relationships, although I was still slim, my belly was starting to look like my dads...I didnt want that ever. So I came across Armin and his Quartz Life program and I lost 5 kgs in 8 days without going to the gym which I find so boring anyway, and the only exercise I did was a half hour walk in the morning. Not only that but my energy levels were peaking, my skin was glowing, and a rash that I always had on my arm dissappeared .
It was the alkaline nutrition and more so the mindset coaching that was the real difference for me, when you lose your attachments to certain foods, or habits, you never get stopped. Thats why I posted what I did, because it seems like its their own minds that stop them from losing weight more than anything, I dont care if they take it on or not, I just shared an opportunity that I believe may change their lives.

Kind Regards

Okay, the easy way to do a diet like this is basically stick to meat, dairy, and vegetables.
So drop all cakes and breads, anything processed or flour based.

Breakfast could be scrambled eggs, yoghurt for lunch, fruit and nuts for snacks, steak and veges for dinner.
There is still a lot of foods you can eat. The thing about protein is that it makes you feel "full" for a longer time than anything else. having no carbs at all can leave you craving and needing the sugar to deal with the insulin spike after a meal, so you want to make sure you have a few of those (ie the veges or a bit of fruit).

The best way to move to a new diet is slowly, so try keeping a food log of what you eat now, and then slowly ween yourself over to the new way of eating. It may not the the fast weight loss answer, but there is a WAY higher chance you will stick with it. the bonus is that your family will also benefit from it, learning how to eat healthier

It's ok, you are not alone. I fall off the wagon regularly. The trick is to get back on again, and get back into it.
Better to cycle 3 days a week and fail the other 4 than to not cycle at all!

A Fad diet is one that you can not sustain for the rest of your life. Dukan is pretty much the same as Atkins or other ones that are protein heavy. Good if you are not a huge bread and carbs fan, you will drop weight.
The main thing you need to remember with any low carb diet is that you should eat a lot of veges still, particularly leafy greens etc for magnesium. Magnesium helps you relax and have less cramps, but also it helps your metabolism speed up

So yeah, Dukan will be fine if you can stick with it for at least many years as a long term thing. Not worth doing if its just for a short time.

thanks very much bianca!! yea dis site is awesome, giving me alot of info and all da info is good as i fink i need to read alot so i can learn wot im putting into my mouth and how it affects me in certain ways, i have been trying to cut back what i eat, but as my family do lots of things together, only today arghhhhhhh we had a family outing at KFC and lets just say sitting there eating my apple and watermelon so did not cut it and i even had a mean feed of salad before i left, i should of known to just stay home as i was very much tempted to snack on a drumstick and my family are so so loving and its not a bad thing not that im tryna say but they esp my mum always tells me that i dont need to lose weight and that i am fine the way i am, wen i know she means well but for my own self its my own self control!!! and i cant be using her loving-ness as a mum be the reason as to why i indulge @ times, altho it is very hard wen my will sometimes is already a bit muddled hehehe. i need to focus and tomorrow is another day and ill start again tomorrow!!! argghhhhh its so goshingly hard if dat even is a word?!

Hey Miriama! Im new too as of today :0). Im 109 kilos and for the past 10 years i have swung between 110 and 130 kilos and it aint nice eh chick. Stuff the diets, what this lady has done is awesome along with her website we are on now. We can do it, we just need to cut out the excess calories we are consuming. I have written a list of the healthy stuff i like to eat, and only bought that in my shopping. Im a major fan of cheese and milk so i have had to cut that down dramatically but not altogether and ive been content with that. I also downloaded a portion size picture and stuck it on my fridge, this has been wonderful to actually see what is a normal size portion and not a bianca size one (huge). Im right there with ya on this one girl. Writing down what i eat is also helping. Today banana, 2 coffees, yohgurt. lunch meusli with some coconut threads and milk and yohgurt...bit of a yohgurt day today...tonite something incorportating the maori potatoes i dug up yesterday and what else im not sure but more veg thats for sure. Kia kaha Miriama chat again soon xx Bianca.

Hello.

Just thought I'd check in to this site with my morning coffee...

Like you, I also fell off the wagon over Christmas. I gained 3kg!!! I am sure that I can just look at a pavlova and put on a kilo. Anyway, back on track now and like you said, no one is going to do it for me. Just get back into it, one day at a time. (Would you like any more cliches?)

I've set myself a goal - I have entered into a 15km off road run which is on 21 April. If you can find an event that you think you'd like to enter (there are lots of mountain biking / road cycling events too) then it is something to work towards. I know that I'm not going to have an easy time running if I am carring extra weight. So at the moment that is my focus.

I think that you cannot let something like your bike breaking stop you from exercising. (Which you haven't - you have yoga). But it will also help you get past the plateau if you change up what you're doing. Don't let anything stop you!

Eg, last year in April I was the heaviest I had ever been - went to the doctor, jumped on the scales and when I went home I made my fiance eat all the junk in the house and told him we're not getting any more. My routine was up at 5.30am, go for a run, scooter to work, come home and make dinner, and then lunch for the next day. Some nights I had soccer training too. One Saturday morning I got up and some a$$hole had stolen my scooter. Which meant I had to take the train to work, which meant I had no time to run in the morning. And never had the energy to do it after work. So rather than giving up, I got my mountain bike out of the shed and decided I would cycle to work. It was an hour each way each day, but there was no way I was giving up. So for a month I was cycling, instead of running and it sure helped.

So you mustn't let anything get in your way - like a broken bike. Why not try swimming or running instead / as well as yoga? Most people hate running - it is hard work, but if you start with a small distance then try and do a little more each day and before you know it you're doing a 15km off road run

I don't know much about the protein shakes and those sorts of things. I do know though that you'll find that all that gimmiky stuff always says on the label "when used in conjunction with a calorie controlled diet and exercise plan". Like that Ab Circle Pro advertisement - since they were sued or whatever they've had disclaimers across the tv screen. I have managed so far without that stuff, plenty of people do. And to be honest I don't have the money to spend on it either.

You sound like you have the right outlook anyway. Keep doing what you're doing - you'll get there

Everything kinda hit the fan over the last couple of months, I haven't gained any weight but I defiantly haven't lost it either. I had a minor set back with my bike, it seemed that everytime I went for a ride something would go wrong (chain came off, pedal broke etc) and so it went back to the shop to be fixed. I am still doing yoga and man it gives me so much energy. So obviously christmas time hit and I lost all focus, chocolate found its way back into my eating habits and everything went down hill.

I have come to realise though that if I am actually going to loose weight then I need to do it for myself and no body else, I've been told my whole life that I'm fat or over weight and always just agreed and always said I am going to loose the weight but it never worked because I never truly believed it. But now I believe that I'm happy being me, I'm happy the way I am, but do know that I need to eat healthier and exercise to keep the insides of me happy as well.

Eating 6 appropriately portioned meals during the day and set times, drinking plenty of water, cycling or doing yoga and living life how I want to will be how I become happy inside and out.

I am on holiday for another three weeks and this will be my chance to get everything into a routine so that when I get back to work it will be apart of my life and not like another chore I need to achieve or try and fit in somewhere.

Bye for now

Hi, My name is Rei and my entire life I've been 'big'. At 16 I weighed in at 120kgs and stayed there even through 4 kids. Now I'm 42 and at 145kgs (just weighed today at the docs. My BP was 191/110, the poor nurse looked as though she was going to have a heart attack at seeing that number.

I have a long journey ahead of me but its one that I need to take if I plan to stick it out and see my granddaughter grow up and be happy.

I haven't succeeded yet.. I say 'yet' with some hope and well just a tiny bit of belief that I will succeed. I've tried a few times before and slacked off, and here I am giving it another go.

My only plan is to eat less than I exert, loose a bit of weight through food/diet management, include more exercise the better I feel and keep going from there.

The only point of difference I have now is that I've given myself a year to do it in. Not even thought about a weight goal. Just a year to make changes in my lifestyle that will reflect in my body changes/health and well being.

I can only try and try again.. and one day I hope to succeed. I'm kinda scared but kinda excited as well.

Cheers.

I have joined up to Fitday.com and it's been helping heaps. I'm still getting my head around counting calouries but I'm getting there. I've stopped buying crap everyday after school (kinda, I slip up every now and then) but have taken to chewing sugar free gum, to keep my mind busy, so that I don't have to stop I started yoga tonight and man does it make you sweat, it was hard work but I loved it Has anyone else tried yoga, what did you think of it??
I've been thinking of trying meal replacement shakes or doing something like Kate Morgan or Celebrity Slim. Has anyone tried shakes, do they work??
So I think I'm slowly getting there, but I definitly see a brighter, happier, healthier future

Hi,

I just thought I'd share a couple of things that really helped me - because you sound a little like me - I fell off the wagon a bit, but I've started again with running each morning and watching what I'm eating.

First of all - I hate the scales. I think the best way to measure your progress is with the tape measure (I use one out of a sewing kit). Measure your bits - eg your arms, belly, bum, thighs, wherever you like really and write it down. A week later measure yourself again. After just one week I had lost a couple of cm from my belly and my arms. It was really inspiring to see the progress after just one week.

Secondly - exercise. I find that if I don't go for a run in the morning before work, it just doesn't happen. I get my gear ready the night before, and I get up at half past 5 and go. I absolutely fail if I plan on goign after work. The only way it does work is if i have agreed to meet someone and run with them. So maybe get yourself a running buddy (or walking, or cycling, or gym or whatever you do). And my dog helps. If I get up early she follows me around the house waiting for me to take her out for a run...

Next - junk food. I love sugar. I love baking. I love cake decorating. I love lollies. I love it all. I can turn down a pie or a burger or a sausage roll without any trouble. Buying a snack on the way home from work - I can relate to this. To combat this - If I go for a wander during the lunch hour at work, I don't take my wallet. I only take to work for my lunch what I'm going to eat. If I take any baking to work I demolish it all. So, for you, can you go a different way home from work? Not past the shop? Something that helps me when I feel like a sweet treat are the Nescafe Mocha Trim sachets. They hit the spot. Or after dinner - you can get some yummy teas - like cocoa chai, or caramel teas and it is just right for me. Maybe you can try the same thing?

Do you use fitday.com? I found it a little bit fiddly to start with, but once you add in your usual customised food that you eat it is really good. A timtam has the same calories as about 30 grapes. I wouldn't have had a clue if I hadn't started using fitday. It really helps I think to know what you're putting in your body. And how long it takes to burn it back off!! I love biscuits, but I have found them to be the biggest waste of calories of them all. I tell myself that I do actually know what they taste like so I'm not missing anything.

Failing that - get naked and jump up and down in front of the mirror. That always helps me get back on track!!

I hope this helps you

So I'm into my second week, and i have to say the first week went really well. I made it up a huge hill on my bike without stopping for the first time, ate healthy and didn't stop and by crap on the way home from work, I was feeling soooo great. BUT this week, I don't know whats happened, It's like my subconsciously I'm trying to get fatter. I don't understand it. Normally I'm an emotional eater, but this week I have been fine, work has been fantastic, home is great, everything's fine, but I still find that every day this week I have stopped on the way home and brought crap food, and I haven't exercised once this week. WHAT'S GOING ON!!!!

Hi Jade!

You weight about the same as me, and I also have a buggered knee (my right) but it can't be an excuse for us. Food is the #1 thing to lose weight regardless, so get the food under control first I reckon, then you can look at doing some more exercising when you are a little bit lighter.

Best of luck with the journey!

Hi there, I'm Jade, I'm a 21yr old Special Ed teacher from the mighty Waikato. I currently weigh 118kgs and am ready to burn it off. I was diagnosed with an over sensitive left knee meaning that a lot of exercise and activities are out of the question. But how do I loose weight when I can't exercise as much as I want to???
I've done weight watchers and been to gyms in the past but as soon as you stop the weight just piles back on, also gyms are never open the hours that suite me. My partner brought me an Exercycle and a road bike and I use them all the time :)
I am now ready though to kick it all up a notch and seriously loose this extra weight!!

Hey there Tania,

We are in a very similar position, I am 116 KG's and also a very good cook who is seriously looking at training to be a professional chef next year. It's hard when you love good food I must say! lol recently I have been doing a lot of cake baking for various things, and needless to say many of them have not made it to their destinations! ARgh lol

I have had problems with finding the right amount of calories for me this time, been on a sensible eating plan for a few weeks now, and not lost any weight, I think I have been majorly under-eating calories per day, when I eat about 1200 I lose no weight, might even put a little on, when I eat around 1800 I lose.. weird! Yes I am accurate with my calories and count everything.

I have seriously given thought to having gastric banding done, but the cost is out of reach anyway.. and I was inspired recently by a Biggest Loser episode I watched (don't generally watch TV at all, nor reality crap ever) and thought, sheez I can do it.. I have before, although this time is harder I have to admit.

Anyway.. good luck to us both, I wish you well Tania! Keep us posted as to how it is going!

My name is Mellie, good to meet you all.

My story is I've tried everything to lose weight but I just can't seem to stick it out. I even paid 150 bucks to a hypnotherapist to no avail (In all fairness to her, I couldn't afford to go back another two or three times like I was supposed to). I know how to lose weight it and how to do it right, I just keep falling off the wagon which is why I'm here. I'm hoping to get some moral support, have a place to b*tch or obsess or not obsess or what ever it is I need to do to stay on track.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know people around here and thanks for this great site Liz, it's amazing!
