Glass of wine is 200 calories, but worse yet, any booze makes your body tend to turn ANY food you eat directly into fat so it can deal to the 'poison' in your system.

so yeah you can loose weight and have wine, but its going to take longer - maybe make it a weekend thing?

I LOVE wine! A LOT! I am wondering how big of a hindrance this is for losing weight. Does anyone out there allow themselves to have drinks and still lose weight?

Oh yeah, as for the chocolate thing, i had my mum give me 6 bars of chocolate midway through diet. She's one of those people who tries to trip me up on the diet, but i was determined to not let her win.
Every morning I got up, i had one tiny square and sucked it slowly until it disolved and enjoyed it. I did that for 3 months or more until finally it was all gone! blowed if i was gonna give it away, it was my chocolate! but also, blowed if i was gonna let them win and keep me fat! I ate my chocolate and also lost weight!

Heya Donald, if you cant control the amount you are eating, change the calorie content of what you are eating.
Switch to lower calorie versions of the same thing or things that taste similar. I had a thing for sweets and especially lemon meringue and i switched to low fat lemon meringue flavoured yoghurt.
Also, im a HUGE meat eater, i cant stop eating once i start and ill always over eat. When i cook dinner i make a tiny portion of meat, and a HUGE pile of veges etc, then i make myself eat the veges first and meat last. This means by the time i finish, i still feel the same as if i ate a ton of meat (very full!) and satisfied.
Cravings suck, but i also noticed if i dont buy it, and deliberately make sure i have no money to buy it then i dont eat it. If i buy buscuits i get like gingernuts or something less fat/calorie and have it with a drink of some sort and eat it slower.

hey, Nicole is right, just hang in there and make sure you try compensate by doing extra exercise when things do go wrong, what i'm doing is i know that if i tell myself, no lollies, pizza chips etc ever again its not going to last, so i tell my self i can't have it during the week, but i can on a Sunday, and then if need be have a splurge on Sunday, buy the bikkies or lollies or what ever else it is that you craving for ONLY on Sunday, it takes a while, but much better to have delayed gratification than to try isolate yourself to having nothing ever again. There again i'm in no real position to give advise, just hang in there:-)

DAMN. I have been so good this last week .. well kinda. I have been going to the gym every day. BUT my food intake is a serious issue. I can not stop eating. I have NO will power at all. At school I find myself at the tuck shop - this is annoying for a few reasons, 1. I take my OWN (healthy) lunch to school, 2. I can't AFFORD to keep buying lunch and 3. I always choose something unhealthy like a sausage roll or bikkie.
Tonight I went to the supermarket for milk. I came out with the milk PLUS a bag of Griffins Mint Treat bites (new product I guess). ANYWAY, I really didn't need to buy them but I couldn't stop myself (same as a block of chocolate ended up on my receipt as well. SO I get home and with 15 mins I've eaten the WHOLE bag. I now feel sick, guilty and bloomin angry at myself.
Anyone got tips for will power?? How do I learn to say NO to myself???
Gonna make myself broke buying all this rubbish food.

Okay, if your body on average uses say 3000 calories, then you only eat 1200, thats a difference of 1800 (which is a fair bit!). So if you exercise another 300 away, then you are then using 3300 instead of 3000 and will then need to eat another 300 to be at -1800 calories a day.

Generally speaking, by having a diet of -500 a day you will loose about 1lb a week (7 days x -500 calorie = -3500 total = 1lb or almost half a kg). The average person will use 2000-3000 a day just walking around, going toilet, breathing, your heart beating etc. Doing exercises increases this, and being overweight again increases this more. So don't kill yourself trying to do massive amounts of weight loss too quickly if you can help it. Eat the extra 300 calories, but make it healthy foods <img src="http://weight-loss.co.nz/forum/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />

Hi Liz/Everyone,

I have found your website most helpful and inspiring. I have a question however about the calories side of it, I understand you are meant to eat at least 1200 cals per day so you don't go into starvation etc, but I have noticed my iphone calorie tracker (my fitness pal) always adds exercise calories to the total I am meant to eat. For example, if I eat 1200 calories and then burn say 300 calories, it says that I should eat another 300 calories. This doesn't make sense to me as what is the point of exercising if you're going to eat the calories again! But I thought well maybe your body goes into starvation if your net calories (i.e. eaten less exercise) falls below 1200. Are you able to shed any light on this?

Cheers,
MJ

My doctor only made the comment I've put on a bit of weight. Yeah I know..lol.

But a good friend who is about 95kgs went to the her doctor, a woman, who is overweight herself, concerned about her weight and wanting advice on how to loose it. And the silly doctor told her she didn't need to loose any and left my friend feeling unheard.

Yeah, i agree about the selling stuff.
In fact the first week she just handed me a piece of paper and told me to log what i ate, second visit i gave it too her and she gave me another and told me to eat healthier things
third visit i gave it back to her and i had eaten worse and she again just said 'eat healthier' and tried to convince me too.
Never stopped to actually explain anything about energy or calorie requirements or anything

I didnt know about the 6 free consults? Wonder if that still exists?!

I dont think nutritionists, or other professionals involved in weightloss should really be beating their own drum by selling you books, or bars or whatever. It crosses the line from professionalisim to commercialisim to me.

Hmm I dont recall if a Doctor ever said anything at all to me, i have a feeling they did a couple of times actually, but yeah i wasnt into it.
Then once i asked about what i could do they gave me referal to a dietitian for some free consults (you get 6 free consultations if you are refered from your doc), i went to the first 2 at which point she did nothing but try selling me books so never went back.
Kinda glad i did it on my own now because i KNOW it was all me and not anyone else i guess.

Just wondering, if your doctor advised you to lose weight? I was 128 kg and throughout my life as my weight went up and up and up, never ONCE did my doctor/s tell me to lose weight?! I was kinda waiting for them to, but no one ever did, even when I had a panic attack I mistook for a heart attack.

You only get 5 minutes with them I know, but I think they need to take obesity more seriously and bring it up with their patients if need be. I mean it is a serious health issue. I know people 120kg plus with high blood pressure, who have not been advised to lose weight! Simply given meds for blood pressure and test for diabetes. no diabetes, so no warnings. It seems very ambulance at the bottom of the cliff to me.

So tell me, how much do you weigh and has your doctor advised you to lose weight???
