Hey all, I'm Hanny.
I'm twenty one, have a goal of losing twenty four kgs, and will probably find twenty thousand excuses over the next few months.

Looking for people around my age that are trying beat their bellies into submission or just some gentle encouragement and not so gentle words when needed

i was talking bowt my diet to one of my girlfriends, and she broght up something about the "african mango thingee" she reckons she heard it somewhere, and i was finking she mighta pickd dat random thing up somewhere but i went online and typed in african mango, and it had nothing but good things to say about this, but i still come to speculate can all this be true from a PILL??
i was finking maybe all those pages were paid to endorse it or something, i even found it on some pretty flash looking websites, which raised the issue, what is your thoughts about this, or have you heard whether the claims are at the least a little bit accurate? is the miracle pill worth all its worth as its like a couple of hundred dollars// :-/
thankyou very much

I live in Blenheim, 39 yrs old, 115.3 kg was alway skinny as a kid and into my teens, hit around 20 and weight started to come on.. now im older I realise that it is exactly what they say its what you put into your mouth and how much exercie you do.. Im also a chef, which everyone thinks is great when your dieting but it is the worst thing ever as you know how you like food, and to love to cook, bake etc is always hard as its always with the bad things .. I have recently been told I am very close to being a type 2 diabetic, and have changed myeating habits by loads, probably about 50 % there, sometimes it is still very hard but it is just being aware if what goes into my mouth.. i do have a problem with eating for the sake of it cause I love food, so its more about portions than the type I think.. as for exercise, none existent, i have all the excuses you can think of and some are reasonable like problems with legs ankles etc, but they are just excuses.. I have motivation when it comes to everything in my life except losing weight, I dont know why.. probably hide behind it for some reason.. i need people who are in the same boat.. motivation is key to me.. otherwise I will just do nothing and get bigger and bigger.. i know i need to do this and i know how to do it.. I just cant motivate myself to do it.

Hi there, I'm Jade, I'm a 21yr old Special Ed teacher from the mighty Waikato. I currently weigh 118kgs and am ready to burn it off. I was diagnosed with an over sensitive left knee meaning that a lot of exercise and activities are out of the question. But how do I loose weight when I can't exercise as much as I want to???
I've done weight watchers and been to gyms in the past but as soon as you stop the weight just piles back on, also gyms are never open the hours that suite me. My partner brought me an Exercycle and a road bike and I use them all the time :)
I am now ready though to kick it all up a notch and seriously loose this extra weight!!

Well, first and foremost.. I'd like to give it up to you Liz for achieving the goals you have and for putting this site together for other to draw inspiration from. Bigg Ups 2U Girl! Yee'aaahh!

Alright, now that's out of the way My Name is Justyn, aka "Bigg Poppa" or "Big Show" lol So ya'll who read this can refer to me as either or. At this point in time right now, I weigh in about 190kgs and the goal is to lose 80kgs (like yourself there Liz) So this is the first of many 'write ups' that I'll be placing up on this site to help track how I'm doing etc.. plus I feel if I do this and share my experiance it'll help inspire others (and me in the process) to stick to the goals I lay out for myself. I've read through the majority of the information on this site and found it all helpful, alot of the stuff I already knew but it's about time to put all the things that I've learnt into practise.

As always we have our own stories about how we gained weight blah blah blah.. lol So I'm not gonna go into all that, what I will say is that it's all on me why I got so big. I don't blame anyone for the size & wieght that I am now... and I know that I'll reach my goal

So... here I go, wish me luck people and I'll try and update all you guys as much as I can but I don't have my own internet but I'll do my best

My name is Mellie, good to meet you all.

My story is I've tried everything to lose weight but I just can't seem to stick it out. I even paid 150 bucks to a hypnotherapist to no avail (In all fairness to her, I couldn't afford to go back another two or three times like I was supposed to). I know how to lose weight it and how to do it right, I just keep falling off the wagon which is why I'm here. I'm hoping to get some moral support, have a place to b*tch or obsess or not obsess or what ever it is I need to do to stay on track.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know people around here and thanks for this great site Liz, it's amazing!

Hi There,
I just found this website lastnight. I have never counted calories before and just being attentive this morning and taking note i realise how many calories i throw away on junky food and how easy it is to use up the daily allowance on stuff that is no good for me. This morning i woke up, it's saturday, i have this idea that meh it's the weekend.....I ate food and prepared my childrens breakfast, then out of curiosity i thought i'd add up all the calories i just ate. I pigged out on various things.... coming to a total of 1096.9Cal!!!!! Woah, and most of the calories come from the biscuits i munched back on. The calories i don't really pay attention to like buttering toast, sugar in my coffee etc... It has really opened up my eyes to what i am putting in. I have decided to make a food diary, and have also done my list of 25 'Reason's i want to be fat' and working on figuring this all out. Soooo, The food diary begins, and not making so many excuses for myself. i am pretty busy being a single mum of two, work full time and study (which seems to be my excuse to not exercise) But really, there is time there somewhere I find myself extrememly tired and go through bursts of eating. I get stressed and emotional eat etc. So here goes. I am 110kg, 166cm tall and totally over weight. Time to take control.!!

I have just started working out the gym nearly 6 weeks ago and have changed the way I eat. When I started I was 127kg and am now down to 123kg in the 6 weeks but to be honest I thought I would have lost more. With so much to loose I guess I was expecting it to drop off. This week I have went to the gym 5 times for about an hour and worked really bloody hard but didnt loose anything this week!!! My eating was still good and cant work out where Im going wrong.
How do you get past it and make sure that next week you loose weight?
And how can we step it up a notch to loose more weight?

Hi Liz,

I stumbled across your website when I was looking for information on calorie counting. I wasn't "big" to begin with, but at a recent visit to the doctor I weighed myself and realised I was the heaviest I had ever been in my life, and was getting heavier. Through the nutritional information you have provided and the advice you have on your website I have dropped 10.5kg and am fitting back into my size 10 clothes nicely. I owe this success to you and your website and just wanted to say thank you

Hi, Just found this website. It looks really interesting. Have been trying to lose weight for years, I have around 60kg to lose. I have recently turned 40 and am finding motivation so difficult. It also seems that every time that I get started something happens to interfere with it all, such as I get sick or I injure my back and can't exercise. Would love to hear from others who have struck the same problems and how they have overcome them

Hi..I just came across this site last night! I am also trying to lose weight. All my life I have been big. I am almost 20 years old and I weigh about 245, 3 weeks ago I was 258, but I got sick with a cold and ended up eating just soup so that's why I lost the weight.

But now I am hoping to change my eating habits and everything to become healthy and to lose all this weight! My goal right now is to be at 180lbs, and then I will go on from there!

I also have a gym membership until november to use! Hopefully I can accomplish my goals!

Love the no nonsense, honest approach to losing weight, after all the years I've been losing weight/attempting to lose weight, counting calories is really a no-brainer! Energy in & energy out is what it's all about. I really 'got it' when Liz mentioned that if she waited for motivation then she'd still be stuck in the same body etc. As Nike says, 'just do it'...

Hi Liz,

I like your web site. I've looked for NZ weight loss forums and yours seems the best so far. I'm impressed with your personal weight loss achievement and I totally agree with your main idea. It really is as simple as energy in minus energy out. Of course motivation is key. I don't have a lot to lose but this is the first time I've gotten really serious. I'm monitoring what I eat very accurately (no more self-deception) and exercising regularly. I'm using a spreadsheet to track kJ eaten and attempting to track kJ expended in exercise. I use BMR and METS for exercise but find it's not terribly accurate, i.e., calculated daily kJ deficit doesn't correlate that well with daily weight loss.

Anyway thanks again for setting up the site.

Hi Everyone,

Im new to this website and your all probably thinking - 6 KG, easy... whats she complaining about!... It is currently the most stubborn thing in my life!

I gained 10kg between March 2010 and the start of this year. I was competitive in running and a bad injury resulted into limited to no training. The weight piled on. My motivation and self esteem dropped and i seem to have been in this lull for a while! Nothing i seem to do gives me the encouragement to complete an exercise that wont damage my ankle further/stick to a diet. I have a good week, then thats it. Seem to over eat and get the guilts.

To make the matter slightly worrisome... I am a bridesmaid in 7 weeks and the bridesmaid dress doesn't fit! Its this stubborn 6 KG, if dropped, that will make it fit. Is that feasible in 7 weeks?

Any advice or support appreciated!
