Another friend had the balloon in the stomach or a band (i forget what) and not only did it not work much, but she got pregg and had to get it removed. I've been trying for over ten years to shift the excess weight and nothing has been permanent. Exercise and watching my calories hasn't worked, weight watchers made me put on weight and don't get me started in Jenny Craig and the cost: the only thing that slimmed down was my bank account. I desperately need breast reduction surgery - I've always been large breasted, started wearing a bra at age 9 - because of the damage that has been done to my upper back and shoulders. However I'm not eligible for the surgery because... my BMI is too high - 43.6 My GP was unsympathetic so I changed to a new one. She didn't even hear me out - simply referred me to the Middlemore bariatric surgery team. And I am now on the list for a laparoscopic gastric sleeve procedure at some point in the next six months. My mother has had a successful lap band and my sister a successful sleeve. Am I scared? Yes but I'm far more determined than I am scared. That is where they go in and staple up the side of your stomach leaving you with a 100-120ml tube. I had this surgery done for free through the counties manukau DHB. When i started in January that year I was about 210KG, or more. By the time of the surgery I was 179KG. As of today, I am 122KG, which works out about 88 KG, give or take. If anyone has any questions, I'd be glad to answer them.
