I was thinking the other day about what I would say if someone asked why I wanted to lose weight. I'd love to say 'for my health', and that obviously is a contributing factor, but sadly I have to admit the key motivator is aesthetics! I am unhappy with the way I look. I also want to be able to do things with my husband, like cycling or going for big long bush walks, without getting puffed and having him wait for me to catch up all the time.

    In order of priority:
    1) Appearance
    2) Fitness
    3) Health

The other item that I'm gonna chuck in the mix, and I'm not sure where it will fit in because I'm too scared to put it at number 1, but it's too important for me to leave off the list altogether - I want to start a family. Sooner rather than later. I have PCOS, so my weight is a contributing factor to infertility. Basically, if I am at a healthy weight I am more likely to conceive naturally and if I can't the fertility drugs they will put me on have a much better success rate.

So here I am. My first official week of weight loss, with my first official weekly weigh-in tomorrow morning! Wish me luck!

Not to go and put on hot clothes?

    Good luck!

This time last year I bought a pair of size 10 jeans! I really want to get back to there!!!

While doing the grocery shopping on Sunday I bought a block of chocolate. When I left work tonight I was really hankering for a couple of pieces and was tossing up between giving in to temptation or trying to overcome it by 20mins on my bike (which is set up on a trainer in the corner of the lounge). In the end I didn't do either. Instead I set about cooking dinner, then went on the bike afterwards and never got round to the chocolate.

    It's the small victories!

Official weigh in this morning and I am currently 76.8kg - that's a 900g loss.

Kinda disappointed as last time I did weight watchers I lost over twice that in the first week, but this wasn't a full week and I had quite a few family get togethers which made sticking to points difficult.

I'm hoping I will have a big loss when I get on the scales next Tuesday. Fingers crossed!

Had a good day yesterday. Stuck to points and did 20mins on the bike. Cycling while watching Chuck definitely makes exercise easier!

I also had to make a decision about my chocolate addiction... stay with me on this one... so while I was at work I could have really used some chocolate and was tempted by the snack box a few times but resisted. Then I get home, have dinner, jump on the bike, watch some TV... then think to myself, 'wow, I haven't had the chocolate I wanted.. ah well, I don't need it'. Here's where the decision part came in, because I was fully walking away from the pantry when I remembered that 3.30pm pang for chocolate and if I deprived myself how I would end up doing what I always do which is get to the point where I can no longer resist and binge! So with great care and full awareness of what I was doing and the consequences of going too far, I removed the block of chocolate from the pantry, broke off 4 pieces (2 for me, 2 for hubby), ate my 2 pieces and then put the chocolate back in the pantry.

That, my friends, is self control!

And I plan to practice it every day, not just with chocolate, but with all food.

    *Phew* Wish me luck!

wow good on you for staying away from the snack box! those things are evil!

I found the best way to get over the chocolate cravings was have some, but what i did was buy a small chunky bar, and just have the 1 piece, and pop it on my tongue and let it dissolve. It was heaven and lasted a fair while, and the craving was gone by the time it was gone.

Also hot chocolate, but this was less effective.

A Jarrah Swiss coffee usually tides me over if I'm having chocolate cravings. I also do the same thing, let the chocolate melt on my tongue. Mmmm... chocolate.

Hmm yeah I usually use the Nescafe sachet things for coffee and hot chocolate, only 50 cals each and they froth up just like the real thing!

A 900 gram loss is extremely good. A good goal is 500 - 1000 grams a week. Any more is too much, too quick. It takes time. You dont have a lot to lose so your percentage loss will be smaller versus people who are a lot bigger. You are right on track. Keep your goals achievable and you are achieving them.

Sometimes I go for weeks at the same weight, despite being "good", but I did not give up. I kept going, it does move down again. Measure yourself too, be focussed not so much on weightloss but also "fat loss", losing cms and fitting clothes better.

I weigh about 1.5 kg heavier at the end of the day, so always weigh same scale and same time, same clothes. i dont even bother weighing the week of my period, as i will put on a good kg without fail, then it mysteriously disapears...

AS to your motivations, WHATEVER motivates you is good. Dont feel bad health is not no 1. (It may have got to no 1 if you had let your weight go right up and you're staring a heart attack or diabetes straight in the face. Luckiliy you have clicked before that happened.

Keep up the great work, well done on the chocolate!

Oh you gain water before your period then once you get your period you drop it. Just normal water retention. Some people have it in extreme and gain or loose 2-3kg, some even more. Im only usually 1-2kg depending how good or bad ive been eating (high sodium/salt make me retain more)

My second official weigh-in tomorrow. Fingers crossed. I've had a few sneaky peaks at the scales and I appear to be on track for a similar loss as last week. Whoop!

This week will be tough though - my grandfather died last night. He was ready to go, but it was still very difficult to watch. We were with him all weekend, and I sat with him for most of yesterday afternoon. He died right after I left to go get some dinner. I will spend most of tonight and probably tomorrow night too, working on a photo slideshow for the funeral, I also have to pick my sister up from the airport at 2am tonight! It's going to be a long week!!!

*Phew* - Last week was a long week!!!

Results of last week - a 1.2kg loss!!! Woohoo! Which my total weight-loss thus far at 2.1kg.

Results of this week - no change. Put that down to the rough week. I'm pleased there was no gain, but still disappointed in myself for not keeping control of things.

I have a new incentive to lose… or rather ‘get rid of’ this unwanted weight. Husband and I were talking the other night and when I am 10kg lighter (aim is to be there by the end of the year) we will talk to our doctor about starting a course of Clomid (fertility drug).

It would be great if everything went as planned and this time next year we had a baby on the way!

My tummy, she is a rumbling. Missed breakfast! Crap!

Was scanning some baby pics of hubby & I last night. Hubby says, "honey, I hope our kids look like you." Awwww!

While ironing my clothes for work this morning I was thinking about how great I'm gonna look when I get rid of this weight, and all the great clothes I will buy without worrying about my 'fat' showing. It was really fantastic to feel excited about being thin and healthy as opposed to feeling deprived that I'm missing out on certain foods.

An awesome feeling to start the day with!!!

Ironicly when you loose the weight, those things are rarely important. Its the small things like being able to fit in a bath with room to spare and no overflowing, Being able to get through turnstyles, being able to sit comfy in the backseat of a car with seatbelt on. Being able to tie shoelaces easily without the bow being on one side or going barefoot. Knowing when you dance at a club that you actually done look like a bowl of jello flopping about etc.
    Clothes are still good however:D

Haha. I don't do too bad with any of those things as I'm not crazy big, I'm just way too big for me. Still fit into seats etc pretty comfortably, and I don't really go clubbing or dancing at all, so none of that's a problem. It's the clothes and the photos that I mostly notice my weight in. Though I would like to cycle without my ass hanging over the seat quite as far as it is!!! Haha.
